Red pandas live in high-altitude, temperate forests with bamboo understories in the Himalayas and other high mountains. They range from northern Myanmar (Burma) to the west Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces of China. They are also found in suitable habitats in Nepal, India and Tibet. They are arboreal, spending their lives in the trees. Believe it or not, their red coloration helps them to camouflage. Their rufous coats are the same color as the red moss and white lichen of the fir trees in their habitat. We know populations are dwindling due to habitat destruction.
