An Update on Stevie’s Story

Written By: Scarlett Rockhold, Communications Manager at Zoo Knoxville

We have some exciting news to share! Stevie, the 8 month old Chimpanzee is now on public view in the indoor chimp courtyard on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays (Schedule subject to change).

She was recently introduced to two female chimps in the troop, Daisy and Jambo. Daisy is an experienced chimp mother and was the member of the troop that initially took Stevie and cleared her airways after her birth. Jambo has been very maternal and can be seen caring for Stevie, often carrying her.

Due to the incredible care from the Great Apes keeper staff, Stevie was able to hit all of the milestones while in human care that allowed her to then transition to being introduced to Daisy and Jambo, so that they can continue her care. Stevie is now thriving with Daisy and Jambo and learning to be a chimp. We hope you can visit them soon!
